My Favorite Books for Life and Marriage That Completely Transformed My Perspective

My Favorite Books for Life and Marriage

I love to read! I love fiction, but as a wife and mom, my selections have often been in the categories of self improvement and inspiration, because I’m always trying to grow in these areas. I know this category has become hugely popular lately, not only because people are actively striving to improve and excel as spouses, parents, and just people in general, but also, because our lives are filled with genuine and real struggles. By reading these books, we seek the wisdom, both practical and inspirational, of people who have fought the same battles or whose unique stories give them a special perspective. Over the years I have read a wide selection of books that might generally fall into the category of self improvement, and while I was able to glean bits of wisdom from nearly all of them, there are a few that stood out among the rest – books that have truly transformed my life, and my perspective for the better. I want to share these books with you, so that you too can experience their beautiful and life-changing inspiration and ideas.

Books Suggestions Based off My Favorite Books for Life and Marriage

Marriage

I have read quite a few marriage books because I am always looking for ways to grow as a spouse, and to strengthen the good marriage I have been so blessed to receive. The ideas in a good marriage book can not only help a couple who is struggling with connection and communication, but also help an already strong relationship to blossom even further. With that in mind, my all time favorite marriage book, that I would almost universally recommend to any woman at any stage in her marriage or relationship, including, dating or engaged is Ramona Zabriski’s book Wife for Life: The Power to Succeed in Marriage. I absolutely love this book. It is full of powerful insight, and I truly believe that applying the practical principles she prescribes can transform a marriage. Ramona has a sweet, and perhaps a little flowery writing style, but I believe her simple, but life changing ideas have the power to resonate with wives everywhere. Although there is a wealth of insight in the book, perhaps my favorite part is that Ramona promotes ideas that will empower women to enact positive changes in their own lives and marriages instead of expecting and waiting for others to do it for them. I believe this book will always hold a place among my most cherished favorites.

Faith and Inspiration

If you are feeling in a rut, or like you cannot find the joy in day to day living, Matthew Kelly’s book Resisting Happiness is a must read. The simple, down to earth, bite sized chapters make it easy for busy moms to fit into their schedule. The message of the book, however, is anything but ordinary, and you will find yourself drawn in, and wanting to devour chapter after chapter. I have read this book multiple times, and will likely read it many more times throughout my life. I absolutely love this book, and I must say, that the first time I read it, it completely transformed my perspective on the people in my life and the ways I fill my time. Although it is written from and Catholic/Christian perspective, I would wholeheartedly recommend this book to everyone, no matter what their faith background.

General Relationships and Self Help

As I’m sure you know, books in the self help category have become extremely popular, and the shelves of bookstores and libraries are inundated with all the latest best sellers in this category. And while there are some really great books from this category, that have been published in the last ten years, there is something to be said for the tried and true self help classics of earlier generations. One of my favorite, which continues to be a huge seller today, even though it was initially published well over fifty years ago, is How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. Through a series of interesting anecdotes, the author illustrates and reveals timeless and invaluable wisdom that encourages and enables strong relational and leadership qualities. This book may be old, but it is truly a great classic, and well worth the read.
